AI and Human Creativity discussion
Professor Nicholas Halmi, Margaret Candfield Fellow and Praelector in English and Fellow Librarian, joined Professor Pireeni Sundaralingam (1986, Psychology), Univ Poet Laureate and Associate Professor in the Department of Writing, Consciousness and Creative Inquiry at the California Institute of Integral Studies, for an online discussion titled 鈥淎I and Human Creativity鈥澛爓ith Dr Audrey Borowski, Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge.
The event, which took place on 17 June, was part of digital dialogues. During the discussion, the panellists discussed whether AI and its tools open up new avenues of perception and exploration or diminishes them. They explored the effects of AI on artistic creation, considered the concept of the author, and debated whether the future is one of co-creation.
This event formed part of a wider series of discussions on the theme of 鈥淎I and the Digital鈥�, convened and hosted by Dr Audrey Borowski. The online discussions took place between April and June 2025 and set out to explore the theoretical ramifications and wider implications of digital tools and algorithmic systems, both presently and in the future. Dr Audrey invited a number of international experts to discuss the relationship between thought and technology, hosting discussions covering a range of topics including algorithms and propaganda, reclaiming humanity in an age of machine thinking, and AI and human creativity.
