Joanna Welsh (1991, Biology), Chief Risk Officer at hedge fund Citadel, has been listed for a second year in a row by Barron鈥檚 as one of the .
The list, which is now in its sixth year, recognises women in top financial leadership positions who are helping to shape the future of the industry. It includes preeminent Wall Street executives, renowned investment managers, securities analysts, and powerful policy makers.
At Citadel, Joanna chairs Citadel鈥檚 Portfolio Committee and advises the firm鈥檚 investment professionals on risk tolerance levels across its strategies, businesses and the funds as a whole. Joanna was instrumental in Citadel being named Hedge Fund of the Year by prominent financial industry publication Risk.net, most recently in 2025.
In her inaugural appearance on the Barron鈥檚 list last year, the magazine described Joanna as 鈥渢he聽lead risk watcher in a sea of risk takers,鈥� and praised her 鈥減rocess-driven approach to risk management.鈥�
With more than 20 years of experience in financial services and risk management, Joanna has also held senior risk positions at Tudor Investment Corporation, Commerzbank and Nomura. She is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York鈥檚 Financial Advisory Roundtable as well as being a member of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation鈥檚 Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
