New Visitor in the Creative Arts

Novelist Amanda Brookfield (1979, English)Novelist Amanda Brookfield (1979, English) has recently taken up the new post of Univ鈥檚 first Visitor in the Creative Arts for Michaelmas Term. As well as working on her latest writing project, Amanda will be interacting with students and fellows across the board to promote discussions about creativity and the arts, both through daily engagements and informal events to be advertised in due course.

Amanda studied English Literature at Univ, writing an optional thesis on EM Forster鈥檚 work. After leaving Univ, she began a career in advertising before becoming a freelance journalist in Argentina. Her first book, Alice Alone, was published in 1989. Since then, she has published 16 books including the bestseller Relative Love, which follows the complex relationships of the Harrison family who have gathered for Christmas in their country house.

She commented: 鈥39 years after being among the first batch of girls to take up residence in Univ, I could not be more thrilled at this chance to re-engage with the college in such an innovative and exciting way. The term is going to fly by and I intend to throw myself into as much as I can. My door is open.聽 Writers love and need to be interrupted. Cakes and ale anyone?鈥

Amanda鈥檚 new book,聽 will be released on 1 November.
