Univ open day helpers welcoming visitorsUniv welcomed over 2,000 people to the recent July Open Days.

More than 2,000 prospective students, their families and friends, visited the College over two of the hottest days in July.

On the morning of both Open Days, our student helpers were busy decorating the College with balloons, bunting, chalk signs and crests on the flagstones of the Main Quad and beyond. They chalked a path leading visitors from the Lodge, through the College to the Fellows’ Garden. Guests were invited to relax in the College grounds and enjoy garden party style refreshments聽鈥撀爄ncluding tea, cake and ice creams.

Student helpers led guided tours of the College throughout each day.聽32 student helpers were involved in running tours, answering questions and guiding guests to scheduled meetings with the tutors. Visitors were able to view the JCR, Hall, Quads, Chapel and some of the student accommodation.聽Tutors from various disciplines were available to meet prospective students to answer subject specific questions about studying and applying to Oxford.

Nelli Chamings, Univ’s Schools Liaison and Access Officer, gave a talk to visitors each day about reading around the school subject, and 鈥渟uper-curricular鈥 activities.聽This was a demonstration of聽聽as well as an opportunity for guests to get tips on exploring their subject so they can develop skills and build material for their personal statement.

Members of the Domestic Bursary were available at an information stall on both days to answer enquiries about accommodation. This proved to be particularly popular as guests wanted to know about costs and living arrangements.
